Printed payslips a thing of the past?

13 Dec 2011

A recent survey from the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professional (CIPP) revealed that electronic payslips was the most popular method of pay for 2010.

Yet, there still remains an established group of people that long for the familiarity of the printed slip.

In a generation of multi-channeled communication, we expect to be able to choose how to receive all the information we require, be that our phone bills, bank statements or indeed payslips.

For employer’s however there are a host of advantages to delivering epayslips. For starters there has been a significant rise in Royal Mail charges this year, leading to a costly delivery process. If a company ignores this cost there still needs to be a print, batch and distribution process in place to make a delivery possible – a timely procedure.

In the climate in which we find ourselves, employees are quick to question payroll departments on discrepancies. The ability to view epayslips on line enables employers to asses such queries quickly.

Perhaps then, like the majority of society, we all need to (pay) roll with the times. Even better, employers should provide payroll software that enables staff to view their payslips online, print them and if desired have them delivered.
